Mould makers must see this! For BG450 nitrogen gas spring, the processing of the rod part's threads? Don't gamble with safety and cost for tomorrow.
Have you ever machined threads on the rod parts of BG450 series and all series nitrogen gas springs for the convenience of your drawings?

recently BBK-JINGBA Beibeikang Technology We have received feedback from many customers that in order to install fish eye fixation on the rod, they casually threaded the piston rod, feeling that it was only a small modification and did not affect its use. But as a practitioner who has been deeply involved in mold nitrogen springs for many years,Today, a serious reminder must be given: all Mold nitrogen spring (including BG450 series), it is strictly prohibited to machine threads on the piston rod by oneself!

Especially in 2026, as the mold industry transitions towards precision and high-end, there is an increasing demand for equipment safety and product accuracy. This seemingly effortless violation of regulations can result in cost losses and production delays, or even safety accidents. It is truly not worth the loss.

First, let me explain why threading is absolutely not allowed? Three fatal hazards, each with its own pain points

1. Safety red line: High pressure nitrogen may "explode the cylinder", endangering personal and equipment

The mold nitrogen gas spring itself is a high-pressure container, and the BG450 series and the entire series are filled with high-pressure nitrogen gas of ≥ 99.999%. The piston rod is a "safety barrier" to resist internal pressure, and every design complies with BS ISO 11901-5:2021 international safety regulations, and cannot move at all.

Processing threads will leave thread grooves on the shaft, causing material stress concentration and lateral force to damage the sealing wall of the high-pressure vessel in the cylinder body. When the mold is working, the piston rod has to repeatedly bear cyclic loads of tension and compression. Over time, the stress concentration point will crack, which may ultimately lead to the breakage and explosion of the piston rod - high-pressure nitrogen gas is released instantly, and the piston rod pops out at high speed, injuring operators and damaging mold equipment are highly likely events. Similar mechanical injury accidents are not uncommon in the industry, and they are all caused by illegal operations.

More hidden risks: Metal debris generated during processing falling into the interior of the spring can damage the seal and cause nitrogen gas leakage, which not only affects use but may also cause equipment malfunction, adding insult to injury.

2. Cost trap: 60% reduction in lifespan, direct invalidation of warranty

The piston rod of BG450 and the entire series are made of high-strength alloy, which has undergone special heat treatment and can work stably for a long time. The design life can meet the demand for millions of impacts. However, processing threads will directly damage the structure of the shaft and the surface protective coating, resulting in a sharp decrease in durability.

Industry data shows that after self machining threads, the lifespan of nitrogen gas springs can be shortened by more than 60%, making it easy for them to suddenly fail during production. Frequent replacement of springs and connectors can actually increase production costs. More importantly, such illegal operations will directly lead to the invalidation of the warranty, and any subsequent problems will not be able to enjoy after-sales protection, which is equivalent to cutting off one's own way out.

3. Accuracy loss of control: concentricity deviation, product directly scrapped

Nowadays, the mold industry is increasingly pursuing precision, especially in high-end fields such as new energy vehicles and precision electronics, where the requirement for mold accuracy reaches the micrometer level. The concentricity of the nitrogen gas spring (the coaxiality between the piston rod and the cylinder body) is the key to ensuring the accuracy of the mold - BG450 undergoes precise testing before leaving the factory to ensure minimal deviation.

Non professional thread processing cannot guarantee coaxiality at all, which will inevitably cause the piston rod to tilt and be subjected to force: on the one hand, it will aggravate the wear of the seal and lead to nitrogen leakage; On the other hand, it will transmit the tilting force to the mold, causing wear and precision reduction of the mold guide mechanism, resulting in dimensional deviation, surface burrs, and unevenness of the final formed product, which can be directly scrapped, and the loss is not insignificant.

Important! The BG450 is equipped with a fish-eye lens. It can be easily used without the need for threaded processing.

I know everyone's original intention for processing threads is to install fish eye fixation, and I fully understand this practical need. Therefore, I have specially compiled three compliant and safe solutions that can be implemented directly without using a knife:

Special adaptation accessories: Relevant accessories can be designed according to the parameters of the BG450 series nitrogen spring rod and cylinder body, so that the accessories can be accurately adapted to the spring rod. They are fixed in a snap on or pin on manner, without the need for threading, and can be directly installed to ensure a firm connection, concentricity standards, and full compliance with product design specifications and safety standards.

Customized solution: If you have special fixed requirements, please communicate with our technical team in advance and customize the installation plan according to your mold structure and installation requirements, taking into account both needs and safety.

Professional technical guidance: Do you have any questions about installation? Contact after-sales service for one-on-one guidance to avoid operational errors and ensure stable operation of the equipment.

Finally, remind all mold makers

In 2026, the competition in the mold industry will become increasingly fierce, and safety and efficiency are the core competitiveness. Don't gamble tomorrow on personal safety, equipment life, and product quality just to save a few minutes.

Both the BS ISO 11901-5:2021 international standard and the product manual explicitly prohibit unauthorized operations such as threading, welding, cutting, etc. on the piston rod. Compliance operation not only avoids safety accidents, but also reduces losses and costs, achieving multiple benefits in one fell swoop.

If you are using BG450 series and the full series, or have any questions about the installation and use of nitrogen gas springs, please feel free to leave a comment in the comment section to communicate and avoid pitfalls, protect production safety and product quality together.
